During the nineties, specifically in the United States, tanning salons enjoyed a massive growth period as the popularity of tanning also grew. While the growth-chaos of those years has died off over the past decade or so, if you live in a major metropolitan area, you’re bound to see countless tanning salons near shopping centers, fast-food restaurants and especially gyms.
While we agree that everyone should get a healthy amount of sun, we don’t recommend visiting a tanning salon, especially on a regular basis. We also don’t believe in excessive natural tanning, due to the damage that can be done to anyone’s skin, whether you’re wearing sunscreen or not.
After all, isn’t it the bronze-color that we’re after in the end? No one goes to the tanning salon thinking about their vitamin D supply, or the long-term effects of UV exposure. Most individuals just want to look hot, ripped, or more beautiful. It’s more of a “look” then anything else.
But hey, that’s not to say we don’t like this look. It certainly gives most people a healthy, attractive glow. We’re not trying to knock tanning, but it does need to be done in an educated, safe manner. So, where’s the middle ground?
The balance is behind getting enough sun to stay healthy, and utilizing the latest advancements in tanning technology. Spray and sunless tans have come an extremely long way in the last decade or so. Times certainly have changed. Gone are the days of those prehistoric lotions that left you streaky, with an orange-tint.
While tanning salons continue to stay decently popular, sunless tanning, airbrushing and gentle self-tanning lotions have seen extreme growth. With all of these advancements, the price for many techniques has dropped considerably, becoming even cheaper per use than most salons, not to mention so much safer.
Granted, you do need to steer clear of a few low-quality products out there on the market, but thankfully that’s where we come in. We’re here to help guide you to some of the most effective products and kits that money can buy. Tanning salons are certainly a thing of the past.
If you’ve made tanning salons a stop on your daily or even weekly routine, we recommend breaking that habit as soon as you can. This may be hard at first, but it’ll only get easier. We strongly believe that natural sun exposure, like when you’re outside, swimming, hiking or doing anything else active, is quite natural and beneficial over the course of your life. It helps supply your body with ample amounts of vitamin D, keeping it running strong and smoothly.
When you’re hopping in a UV casket to bake for 15-20 at the tanning salon, you’re bound to have complications with your skin and health sooner rather than later. Why not get the look without the negative effects? The time commitment is virtually the same, and the results from spray-on and sunless tanning can look even better in most cases.
Our overall recommendation is to find a spray or sunless tanner that works for for your individual skin.
